Marketing the LHS Yearbook
Marketing is all around us. What is marketing? Read a bit about marketing, thanks to Mr. Winton. Complete the document below. Add your explanation about local marketing to the bottom of the Marketing Into doc below.
Divide into groups. Think about the visible signs of marketing in Lisbon and surrounding areas. Write a brief paper describing what you see. (We will share your findings at the end of the class.) Select one example of marketing and re-think it. What would you do to make it more effective? Develop a proposal for that company of what you would offer.

Business Ad Letter
Use the SAMPLES below to create your own business letter. The point of this letter is to ask local businesses to buy ad space in the LHS yearbook for NEXT year.
Leave the company name blank. I have a list of local business. You will select 10 business to send your letters to. From the list of business, write down the business information so you can use Word to create address labels.
Once your business letter is finished, create a thank you letter that you will send when businesses buy an ad. Save this letter so you have it ready when you get a response back :)

Create Yearbook Survey
Use either Word or Publisher to create a survey to give to students after they have bought the yearbook. We will hand these out in Advocacy once the yearbooks have been distributed.
There are some surveys that have already been completed. Use these as guides.
Please provide the following items in the survey:
~Five "meaty" questions (something that will provide actual feedback)
"What grade would you give this yearbook? Explain. etc...
~Have students be able to rate parts of the book using a number scale
~Have a section for constructive advice for the future. "What do you think we can do to improve this book for next year?"
~Provide information on what the survey is about and where to return it when it is complete.
Get the Word Out!
Individually, use Publisher to create 3 different flyers sharing information about the yearbook with the school. Use photos from school on a flashdrive from Ms. B.
If you don't want to use Publisher, perhaps a video would be something you would like to do instead. If this is the case, create a proposal explaining what you will tape, where it will be shown and how it will encourage students to buy a yearbook.
Advertising grading scale:
~ 7 pts total – completing with all the correct information and spelling
~ 5 pts – creativity and design
~ 2 pts – for working together as a group
~ 1 pt – properly formatting and attaching documents to an email
Information to Include:
-price - $55
-how to pay - check made out to LHS
-when they can buy - when they arrive in May
Possible ideas:
-flyers
-posters
-video
